The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), Thunder Bay campus, is hosting its 8th annual Health Sciences Summer Camp (HSSC) during the week of July 7-11, 2014.

There is no cost for participants on behalf of NOSM and funding agencies and partners.  We invite Aboriginal student champions to apply for this camp!

The main goal of this Camp is to interest youth about health careers.  This Camp is designed to encourage our youth to learn about the career direction they may want to pursue and attempt for them to realize their career/professional goals.  The HSSC week will be filled with exciting activities such as plaster casting (arm/hand), crime scene investigation, DNA analysis, blood analysis, and more. The Camp also provides students with an opportunity to explore their Aboriginal culture by relating with Aboriginal medical student mentors, attending Elder sessions, and a day trip to Fort William Historical Park.

Application criteria include:

  • Aboriginal students entering Grade 10 or 11 in September 2014
  • Level of interest rather than grades or test scores (per Section 5 & 6 of Application)
  • Students must be returning to high school in September 2014

Space is limited.  Deadline for registration is Friday June 13, 2014.

A chaperone will accompany students during the Summer Health Sciences Camp in Thunder Bay, and their travel is also funded by NOSM.  Chaperones, please complete section 7 of the attached application form.
