Local Scholarships and Awards

Association of Community Living Dryden/Sioux Lookout Bursary Awarded to a graduate in the amount of $500.  The recipient must be entering a post-secondary program, intending to become a developmental services worker or in some way work with individuals with a developmental disability.

Bonnie Krystalowich Memorial Bursary Awarded to a son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter of a Beta Sigma Phi member with the highest academic standing proceeding to a post-secondary education.

CEP Bursary, Local 324 Awarded to a graduate among sons or daughters of the CEP Union, Local 324, entering a post-secondary program ($500).

Christopher Angeconeb Memorial Bursary Awarded to a student entering law enforcement ($200).

CUPE Union 2141 Bursaries Awarded to a student in Grade 12 among sons or daughters of the CUPE Union 2141, entering a post-secondary program ($500).

Edwin Switzer Memorial Legion Bursaries Awarded to students in Grade 12 among relatives of Legion members, procedding to a post-secondary institution ($1000).

Elaine Brown Bursary Awarded to a graduating student in memory of Elaine Brown, former QEDHS teacher ($200).

Elsie Cosco Memorial Scholarships Awarded to the top two students, with grade 12 university courses ($1500).

First Step Womens’ Shelter Bursary Presented to graduates for outstanding achievement in their co-op placement in a social services field.

Independent First Nations Alliance Award Presented to graduates from the First Nations Alliance ($500).

John Bliznikas Memorial Bursary Awarded to a student proceeding to Trade college or entering a trade ($300).

John Carroll Memorial Bursary Awarded to a graduate proceeding to post-secondary education ($250).

Keewatin-Patricia Elementary Teachers’ Association Bursary Awarded to a graduate who is a son/daughter of a KPETA member, entering a post-secondary program, in the amount of $500.

Lac Seul First Nations Casino Rama Award Presented to graduates from Lac Seul First Nations ($200).

LacSeul Education Authority Achievement Awards Presented to graduates from Lac Seul First Nations ($1000).

McKenzie Recreation Association- Richard George Award Awarded to a son/daughter of a past or present employee of McKenzie Forest Products, entering a post-secondary program ($1000).

Mel & Alice Dalseg Mayfair Theatre Bursary Awarded to an employee of the Mayfair Theatre, entering a post-secondary program ($1000).

Municipality of Sioux Lookout Award  Awarded to a graduate proceeding to post-secondary education.

NNEC Recognition Awards Presented to NNEC graduates ($100).

Norman K. Snyder Award Awarded to a student entering post-secondary education ($500).

Northern Lights Credit Union Bursary Awarded in the amount of $500 to a student proceeding to higher technical or specialized education.  Applicants must be a member of the Northern Lights Credit Union.  Apply at the Northern Lights Credit Union location in Sioux Lookout (42 King St.).

Northwest Catholic District School Board Scholarship  Granted in the amount of $500 to one student who is graduating from each of the secondary schools in its jurisdiction.

Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association Bursary Awarded to a graduate who is a son/daughter of a member of OECTA, entering a post-secondary program.  Student must have good academic standing.

OPSEU(Ontario Public Service Employees’ Union) Award Awarded in the amount of $500 to a graduate who is a son/daughter of an OPSEU member entering a post-secondary program.  Click HERE for application form.

Orlando Lago Memorial Bursaries Presented by the Sioux Lookout Hydro Commission to a male and female graduate proceeding to post-secondary education ($200 each).

R. Irwin Skene Memorial Bursary Awarded to a graduate among relatives of Mason members, procedding to post-secondary education ($300).

Royal Canadian Legion Women’s Auxuliary Bursaries Awarded to a relation of a Legion Auxillary member, proceeding to post-secondary education in the aount of $1000 each.  Application form will be posted soon.

Rotary Club Bursary Awarded to a graduate proceeding to post-secondary education, preferably in a management/business related field.  Must exemplify the ideal of Rotary’s “Four Way Test” ($1000).

Shibogama Education Awards Awarded to graduates of Kingfisher Lake FN, Kasobonika FN, Wunnumin Lake FN, Wapekeka FN, and Wawakapewin FN.

Sid Lewicky Memorial Bursary Awarded to a student going to college or university, who has excelled in Science or Biology ($250).

Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce Bursary Awarded to a student entering a post-secondary program.

Sioux Lookout Lions’ Club Bursary Awarded to a graduate among relatives of Lions’ Club members, proceeding to a post-secondary institution ($500).

The Barnabus Award Awarded by the New Life Assembly to a student who is seen to be most supportive and encouraging to their peers ($200).

The Northern Store Bursary Awarded to a student entering a post-secondary program in business, commerc, marketing or a similar program ($300).

Tibor Nyilas Award Awarded to a student entering a post-secondary program ($500).

Wawatay Native Communications Society Media Bursary Awarded to an aboriginal student entering a post-secondary program, in the field of photography/photojournalism, radio or TV broadcasting, journalism, new media, or other media program ($200).

Windego First Nations Achievement Awards Awarded to graduates of Windego’s First Nations ($100).
